Tapestries from the Renaissance to the 17th century represent a synthesis of technical, narrative, and decorative expertise: fabrics that responded to the desire to celebrate ceremonies, virtuous interweaving of history and myth, as well as offering visual warmth to noble interiors. Created primarily to adorn courts and palaces, they also served to educate and exalt the genealogy and deeds of patrons, as well as protect against the cold climates of service rooms. The reason for the birth of tapestries is twofold: to enhance the magnificence of the house and to demonstrate the prestige of the client, transferring an elite craftsmanship inside that could be appreciated at a distance and in hospitality contexts. The Tapestry we offer presents a rare example of a 16th-century French tapestry.
